Tiger Woods’ NSFW motivational message, Tony Romo’s biggest win, and a golf legend returns to the spotlight

As a rising high school senior in 1999, I unfortunately missed watching live Jean van de Velde’s final-hole debacle while attending a basketball camp. Sadly, I also missed David Cone’s perfect game that week and had to settle for (gasp!) reading about both historic events in a newspaper. On the bright side, I remember going to town on the frozen yogurt machine in the Manhattan College cafeteria… Anyway, while the French remain scarred by this claret jug memory, having that gold ball back will certainly ease the pain. And while we wait to see what craziness Carnoustie has in store this year, here’s what else has us talking.

Margaret Martin prayer request

Prayer request. The past week or so has been rough on our Mary. She was taken to the ER at Maimonides and eventually admitted last week for abdominal pain and spitting up blood. She had an endoscopy on Friday with no conclusive results for the source of the blood, but definite gastritis. Very frustrating. She was discharged on Sunday afternoon. She still suffers occasional severe pain. Met with the pediatrician today and have two separate gastroenterologist appointments next week. Fingers crossed we get some answers.

Video shows naked woman in sweltering nursing home where 8 died By Steve Almasy, Tina Burnside and Miguel Marquez, CNN

Updated 8:20 AM ET, Sat September 16, 2017

(CNN)On the night before emergency workers had to evacuate people from a Florida nursing home where eight died, residents suffered in the sweltering heat as staff used fans to cool them, and one woman sat naked in a bed in a hallway, a video obtained by CNN shows.

The 34-second recording shows a couple in a room at The Rehabilitation Center at Hollywood Hills in Hollywood, with a fan sitting on a nightstand, blowing air across the room and a window cracked open slightly.

According to the family member who shot the video, those two nursing home residents received medical treatment and are recovering.

How we treat the young, the old, and the infirm is an indication of the health of society.

It’s not a political problem; it’s a moral problem.

There must be better “community standards” that make this impossible to happen again.

If we valued our fellow humans, then we’d “figure it out”.

IMHO

Pete Krupp Least we forget Broadway a/k/a Joe’s Pizza. Some great times were had there before and after the Greenleaf, Pinewood or Terminal. I didn’t distinguish between locals or student establishments. A cold adult beverage was a cold adult beverage no matter the source. 72 – 76.

FJohn Reinke For this injineer, the Greenleaf was a required rest stop after Theoology with Father Bruce. With my head filled with “dannny lew” and the ways to know God, Teilhard de Cardin saying science leads us to God, and being called a blundering barbarian from down the hill to tortue the Arts Department, I needed to wash away my sins. Argh! Times were so much simpler then. I didn’t patronize the Leaf when I was in High School, they checked proof; whereas the Terminal was content to over charge us for the ‘water of life’. Argh! So much simpler.

POSITRACTION: Photographer gives his skill and then some to poor children

Photographer Offers to Take Free Graduation Photos for Kids Who Can’t Afford Them
by McKinley Corbley – May 18, 2017

2017 05May 27 Kids Graduating Facebook

*** begin quote ***

Richard Wah doesn’t have any photos of his high school graduation – that’s because he didn’t have the money to pay for a photographer when he was a teenager.

Now that he’s 44 years old, however, he wants to give other kids the opportunities that he never had.

Richard, who works as a photographer in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, is offering free graduation photoshoots to youth who can’t afford them. All the grads have to do is send Richard an email, grab their cap and gown, and show up for the shoot.

The photographer has even hired a barber and two makeup artists to spruce up the grads’ look.

The Philly resident first got the idea for the free photos when he was riding the public bus and saw a group of high school grads sporting caps and gowns – except none of them had any parents or family there to support them.

OK, it’s not Bill Gates style charity, but maybe IMHO it’s worth more. It’s personal. It’s the Good Samaritan type charity.

It makes the world a kinder place for those that need it.

All it requires is a little sensitivity to the needs of others.

ENDNOTE: The definition of delusion

20 Indicators That Signal You May Be Living In The Matrix & How To Unplug Yourself By Andrew Martin Collective Evolution May 6, 2017

*** begin quote ***

Morpheus: “You take the blue pill, the story ends, you wake up in your bed and believe whatever you want to believe. You take the red pill, you stay in Wonderland, and I show you how deep the rabbit hole goes.” –The Matrix

*** and ***

I personally define the Matrix as a set of beliefs, cultural norms, attitudes, and conditioned states which are pervasive throughout society. These are initially created under an economic rationale which offer products and services to citizens. To promote these goods and services various themes, ideas, and ideologies are promoted to establish compliance and persuade individuals to partake in consumptive patterns. Along the way, this information becomes embedded within a society, creating cultural norms and distracting individuals and society from the truth. As individuals living in a society, we become subservient to authority and start conforming to certain illogical cultural constructs. Eventually, like a fish swimming in the ocean, we are unaware of the water that surrounds us, we become unaware of the Matrix…

*** end quote ***

In high school, the good Brothers tried to show us the way. I remember the phrase: “the unexamined life is not worth living” being used a lot. It’s not until decades later when at the end game, I begin to comprehend what they were trying to drum into some very dense heads.

The author gives 20 symptoms and 8 antidotes.

Now, I’m way too old to start over again. But, each day, is a new beginning.

Each year, I’m asked to produce a list of the JOBITs that I’ve collected over the year. This year, due to a software upgrade that I have no control over, it was a little harder. I tried several different ways before getting some support. (“Real men don’t ask for directions.”) That trouble forced me to actually LOOK at the list several times. I was stunned at all those names who were younger, in some cases MUCH much younger.

“Life is available only in the present moment. If you abandon the present moment you cannot live the moments of your daily life deeply.” ~ Thich Nhat Hanh
